Fort Saskatchewan Elementary Schools (only)—March 2-17, 2017:
In April 2016, Elk Island Public Schools approved new elementary attendance boundaries in Fort Saskatchewan. To ensure an even distribution of students in schools, the decision was then made that there would be no boundary exemptions granted for Fort Saskatchewan Elementary, James Mowat Elementary, SouthPointe Elementary, and Win Ferguson Elementary schools during the 2017-18 school year.
Since then, the economic downturn has slowed the rate of growth in Fort Saskatchewan. New analysis of enrolment projections and population trends reveal that elementary schools in Fort Saskatchewan have more room to accommodate students than initially predicted.
The new Fort Saskatchewan elementary attendance boundaries are not changing; however, Elk Island Public Schools is now opening a boundary exemption process for Fort Saskatchewan Elementary, James Mowat Elementary and Win Ferguson Elementary Schools only. Those students designated to SouthPointe School for the 2017-18 school year will still be required to attend SouthPointe School. In addition, SouthPointe will not be accepting any boundary exemption requests.
For Fort Saskatchewan Elementary, James Mowat Elementary, and Win Ferguson Elementary Schools, the boundary exemption process is open to students re-designated for the 2017-18 school year who wish to stay in their current school, as well as students who desire to move from their current school to a non-designated school.
The approval of a boundary exemption request for a non-designated school depends on available space – there is no guarantee of approval. A random selection process will be conducted by EIPS Central Office should the demands for a specific school exceed the available number of spaces. Transportation fees will apply for students who are accessing busing and attending a non-designated school.
IMPORTANT: The sibling clause will not apply in these circumstances. This means siblings of boundary-exempted students who are not currently attending an Elk Island Public School will not be given an exemption to attend the same school in subsequent years.
The Fort Saskatchewan boundary exemption process runs from March 2-17, 2017. To access a boundary exemption request form for Fort Saskatchewan and to view the new elementary boundary map, please click on the links below.
