In an effort to ensure the new attendance boundaries remain balanced and to mitigate enrolment pressures, grandfathering will not be available to families affected by the new school boundaries. A special exception for grandfathering has been approved by the Board of Trustees for the individual students who were directly affected by the 2012–2013 boundary changes in Fort Saskatchewan and will be affected again by these new boundaries, as well as their siblings currently in school.
Students directly affected by both boundary changes will have the option of remaining at the current schools in 2017-2018 to complete Grade 6. The Board has also waived transportation fees for these 10 students for that year. Younger siblings currently in school also have the option of being grandfathering and staying at their current schools until they finish all elementary grades. However, a non-designated school transportation fee would apply for these younger siblings for as long as they are grandfathered. A Payride fee may also apply if they live less than 2.4 kilometres from their current school or their newly designated school.
