Cleaning Procedure on EIPS Buses

As part of the EIPS re-entry plan enhanced cleaning and hygiene protocols will take place on buses. The following cleaning procedures will be adhered to as we strive to keep the risk of transmission low for students and bus drivers:

• Buses will be cleaned thoroughly after the bus completes its last run in the morning and the afternoon. This includes wiping down of all seats, windows, and high touch areas with the approved cleaning solution.
• At transfer sites, high touch areas will be cleaned and wiped down before students board the bus.
• Buses will be disinfected using an electrostatic sprayer after the bus completes its last run in the morning. Disinfecting scheduling may be changed with the consent of EIPS Student Transportation.

Health and Safety on EIPS Buses

Before sending a rider to the bus stop, families are required to complete the daily COVID-19 Screening Questionnaire. If the rider answers “No” to all the questions, they can board the bus. If the rider answers “Yes” to any of the questions, they CAN’T board an EIPS bus. Instead, they are asked to stay home and complete the COVID-19 self-assessment tool for further health-care advice.

EIPS encourages riders to notify Student Transportation if they test positive for COVID-19 to ensure the proper public-health measures are followed. Any rider who develops COVID-19 symptoms—fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, runny nose, loss of smell or taste, nausea, pink-eye—or feels unwell in any way while on the bus is separated from the rest of the passengers. The student is then seated by themselves until either arriving at the school or at their bus stop. If on route to school, staff will contact the family to make arrangements for pick up. Families should ensure the Division has current emergency contact information on file who can respond immediately. To review or update the contact information visit the EIPS PowerSchool Parent Portal.

NOTE: If a child develops symptoms because of a known pre-existing condition, such as allergies, the child will be tested for COVID-19 to confirm it is not the source of their symptoms.

Student/Bus Driver Responsibilities

For contact tracing upon boarding the bus students will:

  • scan their bus pass; and
  • sit in their assigned seat.

For the protection of bus drivers and students, students will:

  • wear masks at the bus stop, upon boarding the bus and at transfer sites; and
  • use the provided hand sanitizer upon boarding the bus
  • complete the daily COVID-19 Screening Questionnaire before boarding the bus.

For the protection of bus drivers and students, bus drivers will:

  • wear masks when students are on the bus; and
  • wear face shields only when students are boarding and disembarking from the bus; and
  • provide students with hand sanitizer upon boarding the bus
  • complete the daily COVID-19 Screening Questionnaire before boarding the bus.

In the event a student attempts to board the bus without the protection of a mask bus drivers will:

  • provide them with an age-appropriate mask; and
  • record the distribution of the mask in the provided log; and
  • if consecutive or continued refusal to wear a mask follow the student conduct procedure.
