Registration

Kindergarten

You can register your child in Kindergarten for the 2012/2013 school year if he/she will be five years old on or before March 1, 2013. Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) encourages families to register by April 30.

While school boundaries do not apply in Kindergarten, EIPS encourages parents/guardians to enroll their Kindergarten child in the school where the student will be designated for Grade 1. You can find your designated school using the Versatrans e-Link tool.

Due to high utilization rates in our schools, our principals have been directed to reserve room in their schools for all Kindergarten children in their boundary areas. Once principals have made this determination, they may consider accepting Kindergarten students outside their boundaries.

In order for us to track the movement of Kindergarten students accepted to schools other than their designated grades 1-6 schools, we are asking these parents to complete a boundary exemption request form. Principals will advise parents when this form is required. This process enables us to plan for Grade 1 when students will be attending their designated schools.

To register your child for Kindergarten:

  • Complete the Student Registration Form. Your choice of morning or afternoon classes, if available, is not guaranteed.
  • Take the form directly to the school in which you would like to register your child. The principal will advise if you are required to complete a boundary exemption request form for our tracking purposes.
  • Bring your child’s birth certificate so school personnel can make a copy as required by Alberta Education.
  • Contact Student Transportation at 780-417-8151 or using our online contact form to make all busing arrangements, if required.

For more information, go to FAQs about Kindergarten our check out our 2012/2013 Kindergarten Guide.

We look forward to welcoming your child into one of our Kindergarten classrooms this fall.

Grades 1 to 12

If your child already attends school within EIPS, he/she will be automatically registered at the same school for the following year and you DO NOT NEED TO RE-REGISTER YOUR CHILD.

In cases where your child is transitioning from elementary to junior high or junior to senior high school, your child will be automatically registered in the appropriate school according to EIPS' boundaries.

If you are new to the division, a Student Registration Form  must be completed and remitted directly to the school in which you wish to register your child.

Families wishing to choose their own school must complete and submit a Boundary Exemption Form to the principal at your designated school. Approval requires that there are sufficient resources and facilities available to accommodate the student at the school of choice.

Refer to our Boundary Exemption process for details and submission deadlines.
