Residents residing in Strathcona County Ward Electoral Subdivision #4, which is comprised by municipal lands south of Secondary Highway 630 (Wye Road), are hereby advised that Mr. Jim Seutter has resigned his position as trustee as he has relocated outside of the ward, effective Nov. 30, 2023.

Two legislative sections apply in this situation:

  • Section 21 (1) (b) of the Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA) states that a person may be nominated if the person has been a resident of a ward for the six months prior the election.
  • Section 87 (1) of the Education Act states that a person is disqualified from remaining as a trustee if they cease to be qualified for nomination under the LAEA.

Residents of Strathcona County Ward Electoral Subdivision #4 will be represented by the remaining Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) trustees until the next local authorities election—in October 2025. As well, the Board Committees List and Acting Chair Schedule were amended to replace those positions to which Mr. Seutter was assigned.
As outlined in the Education Act Section 81(2), a by-election need not be held during the three-year period immediately following a general election if there is only one vacancy on the Board.

Residents of Strathcona County Ward Electoral Subdivision #4 who have questions regarding the change in representation are encouraged to email EIPS.

More information is available in the recommendation report presented to the Board of Trustees on Nov. 30, 2023—see pages 13-19 of the Board package.
