“Today, we are marking National Indigenous Peoples Day at Elk Island Public Schools—a day when we come together and collectively honour the history, culture and significant achievements of First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples in Canada.
“Schools throughout Elk Island Public Schools are organizing events and activities that acknowledge our shared past as Indigenous Peoples and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada. As educators, one of our fundamental goals is to inspire all students to achieve success and reach their full potential. As such, we’re committed to working to advance truth and reconciliation, and boosting educational outcomes of Indigenous students.
“We’re undertaking this through programs and initiatives that are based on respect, co-operation and partnership and that embrace Indigenous teachings, heritage and contributions. It’s our belief, through these continued efforts, we can create further dialogue to then build a cross-cultural understanding, generate more equitable and inclusive learning spaces, and shape our shared futures as we move forward on the path of reconciliation
“On behalf of EIPS, I encourage all our students, staff and school communities to take part in the #IndigenousPeoplesDay activities happening throughout the Division.”
