Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP)
Why RAP?
The Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) provides the opportunity for students to earn senior high school credits and apprenticeship hours toward journeyperson certification.
- Start post-secondary education while still in high school.
- Earn up to 40 credits towards a High School Diploma of Certificate of Achievement.
- Obtain a Blue Book and log up to 1000 hours towards journeyperson certification.
- Qualify for scholarships.
- Prepare for opportunities in high demand and rewarding careers.
- Get a head start on the transition to life beyond high school.
Prerequisite Courses
As specified in Alberta Education's Off Campus Education Program Handbook (2019), RAP students must meet the following criteria:
- Be a minimum of 15 years of age or older
- HCS3000: Workplace Safety Systems (1 credit)– required
- HCS3010: Workplace Safety Practices (1 credit)– recommended
EIPS requires the following:
- Student is on track with graduation plan.
- Student has good academic standing, particularly in Math, Science, and English.
- Student has excellent attendance at school, good citizenship, and attitude.
- Student submits a resume, cover letter and completes job specific safety training (CSTS2020, WHIMIS, Safe Food Handling, etc.).
Employers will favour students who:
- have a valid drivers licence
- are available to work full-time for a minimum of one semester
- are close to graduation or returning after graduation
- have CTS or transferable experience in their chosen trade
Finding a RAP Placement

RAP placements must be approved by EIPS. Students can find a placement in one of the following ways:
- Working alongside a friend or family member who is a journeyperson.
- Applying for positions on their own.
- Working with EIPS Career Pathways and CAREERS to apply on a position.
Registration
Step 1: Complete the prerequisite courses.
Step 2: Talk to your Career Pathways Facilitator or school counsellor to add RAP to your graduation plan.
Step 3: Confirm your training location and trade specialization.
Step 4: Register with Campus EIPS.
