As part of our goal to enhance high quality learning and working environments, Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) is committed to partnering with Post-Secondary Institutions to offer educational opportunities, including dual credit, to EIPS students. Through these opportunities, students could earn college/university credits from a Post-Secondary institution and high school credits in select programs. These opportunities are in partnership with Elk Island Public Schools Division, Lakeland College, Portage College, Norquest College, Olds College, and Alberta Education.
Dual credit pathways help students earn high school and post-secondary credits that can count toward a post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree, including first period apprenticeship opportunities. Moreover, Dual credit opportunities span a variety of industries and professions including health care, trades, agriculture and business administration.
Dual credit helps students to:
Students will be responsible for purchasing all textbooks and required resources materials (ie: robotics kit). These costs are set by the Post-Secondary Institution and indicated in the course descriptions. Information about purchasing the required materials will be provided to students once they have been accepted into the course.

STEP 1: DETERMINE IF DUAL CREDIT IS RIGHT FOR YOU
Not everyone who applies for a Dual Credit opportunity will be accepted. It is important to have careful conversations between the student, parent, administrators and Career Pathways Consultant about the course you are interested in and what to expect from a college level curriculum.
Prior to applying, please make sure that you:
STEP 2: APPLY
Interested students will speak with their school administration and counsellors to set up a meeting with an EIPS Career Pathways Consultant. After the meeting, the student will be advised on their eligibility to apply and the next steps. Available spots will be filled on a first-come first-served basis. Late applications and incomplete forms will not be accepted. Application deadlines vary depending on the program and post-secondary institute.
STEP 3: CONFIRMATION
Once you are recommended to proceed, you and your parent/guardian will receive an email with instructions on how to apply to the Post-Secondary Institution. This includes completing the application required by the Post-Secondary Institution delivering the course. The Post-Secondary Institution has final approval on all applicants and is dependent on availability.
