As you know, Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) is exploring possible solutions to improve school utilization rates in Vegreville. Currently, EIPS has two schools in town that serve students living in the western portion of the County of Minburn and the Town of Vegreville—A.L. Horton Elementary and Vegreville Composite High. Over the last few years, both schools have experienced a drop in enrolment, affecting program delivery and facility operations. To determine a solution, EIPS consulted stakeholders and the school community through a two-day value-scoping session in fall 2023—facilitated by START Architecture.

Thank you to all who attended and shared their input. Collectively, the group discussed ways to optimize learning environments for students at the two schools while also ensuring high-quality educational program delivery. The report from the value-scoping session is now complete and was presented to the EIPS Board of Trustees at the public meeting earlier today. EIPS encourages everyone to review and share the report and the background information. The Board will use the report and feedback from the session to develop a community-derived solution and include it in the 2024-27 Three-Year Capital Plan—planned for release in April 2023.

Thank you again for your participation in the value-scoping session. EIPS will continue to keep stakeholders informed as information becomes available. For more information, or to subscribe for updates, visit eips.ca.
