Bev Facey Community High displays its support for Pride Week.
Sherwood Park, AB. — From June 2-6, schools throughout Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) are marking the Division’s Pride Week. Organized annually, it’s an opportunity to further the goal of creating and maintaining welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning and working spaces.
“We look forward to celebrating Pride Week across our Division,” says Cathy Allen, the Board Chair of EIPS. “From students to staff to families, we all contribute to positive learning and working environments that foster well-being. In addition to voluntary Pride activities, schools bring life to their communities with events throughout the year that engage families, enrich student experiences, and showcase the diverse and unique identities of all those involved with EIPS.”
Throughout EIPS, Pride Week 2025 gives students a chance to celebrate by organizing respectful and positive activities in their schools. These events, which are voluntary and take place outside of instructional time, are varied, and both age and grade appropriate.
“Diversity and inclusion are so important,” says Ryan Marshall, EIPS’ Associate Superintendent, Supports for Students. “We all bring different perspectives to the table, no matter if we’re a student, staff member, parent, caregiver or community member. EIPS recognizes our differences and celebrates the strengths we share together.”
Pride Week is also being celebrated at different times in June, within several communities EIPS serves:
- Strathcona County: Flag raising occurred May 31
- Vegreville: June 9-14
- Fort Saskatchewan: June 13-19
Elk Island Public Schools is one of Alberta’s largest school divisions, serving approximately 17,950 students in 42 schools. We are proud to be an integral part of our communities, including Sherwood Park, Fort Saskatchewan, Vegreville, Strathcona and Lamont counties, and the western portion of the County of Minburn.
