Elk Island Public Schools was pleased to announce the name of the new replacement school in the Sherwood Heights area of Sherwood Park: Forest Grove School. The Board of Trustees approved the name at a public Board meeting on Dec. 19, 2024.
In fall 2024, the Division gathered input from students, families, staff and community members on what the name of the replacement school should be.
Ken Marshman, a project manager at EIPS, also provided several construction updates for the community, including what the two gymnasiums look like so far, the first bricks that've been laid, structural steelwork and next steps.
Construction continued for the Sherwood Park Replacement School. Several highlights from October include:
On September 12, EIPS hosted the official groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction on the new replacement school.
The ceremony included reflections from Elder Wilson Bearhead and greetings from local dignitaries—including Board Chair Cathy Allen; Trustee Trina Boymook; Nate Glubish, Alberta’s Minister of Technology and Innovation and Member of the Legislative Assembly for Sherwood Park-Strathcona; and Strathcona County Mayor Rod Frank.
