Thank you to everyone who attended last night’s public engagement session about the Logos Christian Program. At the meeting, Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) shared its plans to postpone a final decision about the Logos elementary programming until after the returning student registration process takes place in February 2023.

If registrations increase significantly, EIPS will recommend the Board keep the elementary program unchanged at both Brentwood Elementary and Westboro Elementary. If registrations stay relatively flat, EIPS will recommend the Board consolidate the elementary program at Brentwood Elementary, starting in 2023-24. For junior high, because it’s tied to the elementary program, it will remain in place as long as student numbers remain sustainable—EIPS will continue to review the program location and its sustainability.

EIPS also plans to work with the Elk Island Logos Society to develop and implement a detailed enrolment growth strategy to help ensure the program’s long-term viability, including benchmarking and growth targets.

If you couldn’t join us in person and want to provide feedback, or offer more input, you still can. Simply send an email to Y Station. The deadline to submit feedback is Oct. 17, 2022. To help with providing feedback, below are three background documents:

For more information, or to subscribe for updates, visit eips.ca.

Once all the feedback’s submitted, Y Station, the contracted public-consultation firm, will compile the input and prepare a final report for the EIPS Board of Trustees to review, expected in December. EIPS will also share the report with the Logos community.

A final decision about the Logos program is expected in spring 2023. The time allows the Board to see the actual registration numbers for Logos in 2023-24, and gives Logos the chance to promote the elementary program leading up to the returning student registration process. The Board will ensure the decision it makes is in the best educational interests of all students.

Again, thank you for your participation. EIPS will continue to keep the Logos community informed about the process as information becomes available.
