Labour Update: Labour action

Dear EIPS families:

The Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA) has advised Elk Island Public Schools it plans to implement a reactive lockout—effective at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 9.

TEBA is the province’s collective bargaining body that is negotiating with the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA). The lockout is in response to the ATA’s recent strike action—a tool often used to help minimize and manage a labour disruption by limiting the approach the striking party may take.

Similar to the strike, throughout the lockout:

  • All EIPS schools remain closed to students and families.
  • All EIPS student transportation services remain suspended until classes resume.
  • All EIPS and school events, activities and extracurriculars, including field trips; clubs meetings; committee meetings; and sports competitions, practices and games, remain suspended until classes resume.

EIPS will continue to update you as information becomes available about the situation, its potential impact on school operations, and what it means for you and your child. In the meantime, for more information, visit eips.ca.

Thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely,
Elk Island Public School
